It's not techno.

When I first moved into my dorm last semester back at WSU, I remember meeting these two kids in the front room of our suite, Brian and Ben.  You only get one first impression as they say, and during our initial encounter, Brian and Ben were playing Halo . . .  with wireless headsets . . . in gamer chairs.  With that, and as things were back then, my roommate Mike and I were on high code red nerd-alert whenever they stopped playing Halo and ventured out into the outlying areas beyond their own room.  We both thought for sure that the guys in room 201-A (I don't actually know if that is actually their room number) were larpers and level 80 wowers.  As later discovered, they don't larp, and the real reason Brian and Ben never talked to us was there acute fear of being bro-raped.  Brian and Ben were larping, wowing nerds, and Mike and I were naty ice, visor wearing bro's.  Proof that stereotypes suck dick.  After that initial encounter, it took a thoroughly repugnant moldy batch of month old rice to give rise to further interaction.  From memory I recall the note written on my rice cooker read, "Who's FUCKING rice cooker is this?!  This is disgusting.  Clean up your shit."  Now that I think about it, everything I just said is beside the point I've been meaning to make.

Now, to un-digress (tan^-1), on a particularly intoxicated evening, Mike and I get back onto Stimson's second floor into our cluster to be greeted by non other than Brian Reidy himself,
armed with a strobe light and an iPod playing the most beguiling music I have ever heard.  This moment marked the beginning my love affair with the synthesizer and electronic music.  The one thing I remember most vividly was listening to "Do It Again" by the Chemical Brothers and Propane Nightmares by Pendulum and being literally scared out of my mind.  It could have been the substances running through my blood at the time, or it could have been that damn malign strobe light that made me want to die, but more than likely it was the hypnotic stupor instilled by those two songs.

As our relationship progressed, Brian introduced me to many other artists that strengthened my love of electronic music that would in turn lead to my own pursuit and discovery of many additional others.  From the indie-electro-rock of MGMT and Starfucker to the much more
aggressive Pendulum and of course, Does it Offend You, Yeah?  I found that all I was listening to was my new found fascination and nothing else.  Then, as recommended by a very good friend of mine, Justice, The Bloody Beetroots, and Chromeo were added to my iTunes library further contributing to the neglect of all other types of music.  But to be honest, I didn't care; I was in love.  But why?  What is it about electronic music that has so compelled me?

Most instruments have a finite quantity of sounds and tones they are capable of making, but the synthesizer is only limited to the creativity of it's user.  This versatility has allowed electronic music to span across multiple genres with ease, and in my opinion, no matter what that genre
is, every time I hear a synthesizer that song turns to GOLD.  So for those of you interested, I recommend the following: *they are grouped by similarity*

1) MGMT, Starfucker, The Main Drag, Postal Service
2) Pendulum, Does it Offend You, Yeah?, CSS
3) Justice, IAMX, The Bloody Beetroots, The Chemical Brothers
4) LMFAO, Kid Cudi
5) Chromeo, **Primal Fever**

**Primal Fever is a group composed of two friends of mine Michael Purcella and Dillon Morton.  They're electronic stylings are described as "dance music incorporating a disco-esque
sound with raunchy synth layers . . . "  I personally describe their music as "the best shit you have ever heard ever."  Check them out for sure.
